Privacy policy

Last updated: 25 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how TechToast (“TechToast”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and discloses personal information. It covers our online store and website at techtoast.academy (the “Store”, which is powered by Shopify), the TechToast desktop application (the “App”), and the TechToast Academy learning content (the “Academy”) — together, the “Services”.

Who our Services are for. TechToast is a general-audience STEM and electronics product used by adults, hobbyists, retirees, and families. Purchases and accounts are for adults aged 18 or older.

Scope note. Some products we sell are standalone hardware that do not connect to the App or Academy. The App- and account-related sections below apply only when you create an account or use the App.

By using the Services you acknowledge you have read this Privacy Policy. If our Terms of Service conflict with this Policy on the handling of personal information, this Policy controls.

Personal Information We Collect

From the Store and website

  • Contact and order details — name, email, phone, billing and shipping address, and the items you view, add to cart, purchase, return, or exchange.
  • Payment information — handled by Shopify and our payment processors. We do not store full payment card numbers; we receive transaction confirmations and limited payment details.
  • Communications — information you include when you contact us (e.g., a support request).
  • Device, usage, and cookie data — IP address, device/browser information, and how you interact with the Store, collected through cookies and similar technologies (including the Meta Pixel and Google tags described under “Advertising and Analytics”).

From the App and your account

  • Account information — the name, email address, and password used to create your TechToast account (credentials are handled by our authentication provider; we do not store your password in plain text).
  • Entitlements and activation — the products/Academy experiences your account owns and the activation code(s) used to unlock them.
  • Your projects — the projects you create in the App. If you sign in and use cloud sync, your projects are stored in your account so they are available across your devices.
  • App usage events — anonymous, product-improvement events such as “a lesson was started” or “an upload succeeded.” These are domain events only; they are not advertising data and are not tied to a named individual.
  • Support diagnostics — if you choose to send a support snapshot, it includes the state needed to help you (e.g., your current project, generated code, connected board, and app/operating-system version).

From marketing

  • Email engagement — if you subscribe to our emails, our email provider (Klaviyo) records opens, clicks, and similar engagement to help us send relevant messages.

How We Use Personal Information

  • Provide and operate the Store, the App, and the Academy, including processing orders, payments, shipping, returns, and exchanges.
  • Create and manage your account, unlock and verify entitlements, and (if you opt in) sync your projects across your devices.
  • Provide customer support, including using a support snapshot you send us to diagnose your issue.
  • Send you transactional messages (order, account, password, and activation emails) through our transactional email provider (Postmark).
  • Send marketing and promotional emails (via Klaviyo), which you can opt out of at any time.
  • Advertise and measure our advertising on the Store and other websites (see below).
  • Improve our products using anonymous usage events.
  • Protect the Services, detect and prevent fraud or abuse, and maintain security.
  • Comply with law and respond to lawful requests, and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

Advertising and Analytics

On the Store and website, we use the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel and Google advertising and analytics tools to understand traffic and to show and measure advertising. This advertising is directed to adult shoppers. Depending on where you live, this activity may be considered “selling” or “sharing” your information for targeted advertising under applicable law — see “Your Rights and Choices” for how to opt out.

We do not run advertising trackers inside the App, and we do not use a learner’s in-app activity for advertising. App usage is limited to anonymous product-improvement events.

How We Disclose Personal Information

We share personal information with the following categories of recipients for the purposes described above:

  • Service providers that operate the Services on our behalf — e.g., Shopify (store and checkout), our payment processors, our fulfillment/shipping partners, Supabase (accounts, entitlements, and project sync), Postmark (transactional email), Klaviyo (marketing email), PostHog (anonymous product analytics), and our help-desk provider.
  • Advertising partners — Meta and Google, for advertising and measurement on the Store, subject to your opt-out rights.
  • At your direction — for example, to ship your order or when you ask us to share information.
  • Legal and safety — to comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect our rights, users, or the public.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

Children’s Privacy

Our Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

International Transfers

We are based in the United States, and our key providers (including Shopify and Supabase) store and process information in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S. (for example, the EEA or the UK), your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S. Where required, we rely on recognized transfer mechanisms such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (or the UK equivalent).

Security and Retention

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, but no system is perfectly secure. We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, maintain your account, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them, and we may need to verify your identity before responding.

  • Access, delete, correct, and portability — request a copy of, deletion of, correction of, or transfer of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Opt out of targeted advertising / “sale” or “share” — you can opt out of our advertising-related sharing. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as an opt-out where required. [Add your cookie-preferences / opt-out link here.]
  • Marketing opt-out — unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in those emails; we may still send you non-promotional account and order messages.
  • EEA/UK rights — in addition to the above, you may object to or restrict certain processing and, where we rely on consent, withdraw it.

To exercise any right, contact us using the details below. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version and revise the “Last updated” date, and provide additional notice where required by law.
